The Crusading Spirit

The Crusading Spirit

This month we offer our Guild members a lecture delivered at the Academy by Dr. John Rao on October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and anniversary of the Christian victory in the Battle of Lepanto. Dr. Rao, director of the Roman Forum and former associate professor at St. John’s University, spoke on the meaning of crusadership. In his lecture Dr. Rao shows that, far from being the totally worldly endeavor that many people think it is, crusading is actually an essential feature of Christianity because Christ’s proclamation of the Gospel and inauguration of the Church’s mission to spread the kingdom of God inevitably involve opposition from those satisfied with the base standards of business-as-usual existence.
